Zig Zag Zig is the creative studio of Sai Neoh. A journey of making, learning, and refining—expressed through architecture, art, and objects. The studio moves fluidly between disciplines, shaping spaces, crafting experiences, and telling stories through design.
From large-scale murals that transform environments to ceramics that bring warmth into everyday life, every project is an exploration of material, form, and movement.
The work is rooted in considered craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and a deep respect for process.

Biography
Graffiti to Public Art 2000-2010
My creative path began in the early 2000s with graffiti in the laneways of Melbourne. As a teenager, graffiti was an accessible way to be creative and focus on skills and craft. It demanded quick thinking, strong commitment, and constant refinement of ideas in the public realm.
Seeing other writers paint with so much style and skill was transformative—it showed what was possible through discipline, imagination and the freedom to be yourself. Graffiti tought me to explore what I was drawn to and to interpret references and influences from all corners of my own life: heritage, travel, people, nature.
It was a freedom to be individual—to develop style and technique—and it laid the foundation for the way I approach creative practice today: bold, exploratory, and deeply connected to its environment.
By the mid-2000s, the scene expanded into studio practice and exhibitions, where the support from other artists was positive, authentic, and deeply encouraging. It remains a source of inspiration for how I view culture and collaboration today.
Over time, my journey moved from graffiti to street art, laneways, and public murals, where the scale, audience, and impact grew. Today, I continue to bring that same energy and spirit into large-scale public art, architectural design, and crafted objects.
Making 2009-2016
In 2009, after travelling through South East Asia and South America, my wife and I were continually drawn to the traditions of textiles and leathercraft we encountered along the way. Inspired by these experiences, we founded Tailfeather—a textiles and leather goods brand rooted in quality, simplicity, and longevity.
We settled in Tallarook, Victoria, living on 50 acres of bushland in the Tallarook Ranges in a small off-grid mudbrick cottage. Surrounded by Australian bushland, it was there that we began to develop the visual language and patterns for new products, refine our production methods, and source leather from some of the best tanneries in the world.
Over the years, Tailfeather grew steadily. We collaborated with both international and local brands. Each product carried the values we set out with—attention to detail, integrity in materials, and a commitment to making things that last.
In 2016, we made the decision to scale back our offerings in order to maintain quality while focusing on family and opening space for new creative endeavours. That chapter continues to inform the way I work today—valuing process and craftsmanship over scale, and carrying forward a belief in creating with purpose, balance, and integrity.
Building Design 2017-2025
After Tailfeather, I turned my focus to building design, combining my creative and technical skills with a long-held interest in architecture and placemaking. I completed my Advanced Diploma of Building Design, became a licensed Building Designer, and began working across a wide range of projects.
This opened opportunities to work on capital works projects in education, the delivery of masterplans for heritage precincts in Geelong, as well as large commercial and community developments. Alongside these, I worked on custom residential designs, blending modern functionality with thoughtful design outcomes, and restoration projects that deepened my appreciation for heritage and cultural context.
As my work expanded into public and cultural spaces—such as galleries, hospitality venues, and urban developments—I saw how design can act as a powerful connector between people, culture, and the built environment. These projects became opportunities to create places that not only serve a function but celebrate identity, foster community, and invite meaningful experiences.
Zig Zag Zig exists as a space to bring these threads together—combining art, community, and place—to deliver projects that activate spaces, are grounded in craft, and connect with the people who experience them.
